iGive In

I hate technology. I love technology.
The new skin I just ordered- so excited!

I have decided to get an iPad. I think hell has frozen over.

Some would call me old fashioned. Others would call me downright stupid. Sometimes I just don't see the point in spending hundreds of dollars on the newest and greatest technology. We survived before it. It's constantly changing, upgrading. The one thing that hasn't wavered is my love for a good, top notch computer.....but I only want a desktop- no laptop for this girl.

It's funny- I was absolutely, whole-heatedly against a lot of the technology I have today...and I always had my reasons for why I didn't like it.
  • Cell phone- for years I carried a TracFone. There was no point in paying a monthly charge for something that just made me too available to the world. My answering machine took my calls when I was away. But I still refuse to get a smart phone- mainly because I don't want to update my Facebook from the beach, check my e-mail while at the mall, or pay $30+ for a data package.
  • LCD/Flat panel TV- I often the screen was just too small in comparison to that large box of a tube TV. At first my argument could be justified because most television stations still had yet to convert to wide screen broadcasting. Now I love my TV- the bigger the better. But you won't see me buying a 3-D TV.
  • Blu-ray player- why spend ungodly amounts of money that plays a too-expensive disc that doesn't look significantly better? I quite enjoy my Blu-ray player, but insist the cost of discs needs to go down.
  • Nintendo Wii- what's wrong with the good and classic controller in hand? Why do you have to look like a complete fool while playing your video game? Well, thinking back to the days of holding a wired controller, it's obvious that you don't always just sit there. In fact, my dad once broke a chair as he tried making that jump in Mario. I've steadily built my collection of Wii games and I find them quite enjoyable. But, nonetheless, there is newer and better technology out there (Kinect for XBox).
  • iPod- who needs some little portable device that can hold a bunch of music? CDs are great and portable! While I'm still a lover of CDs, having that iPod when you don't quite know what you're in the mood for is great.
So, call me a stick in the mud. I think technology makes us entirely too available and share way too much information. Do people really care that you are sitting in "x" restaurant at the exact moment that you are? Do people really want to see what you are eating at said restaurant? Or are you just trying to say "wow, look how great my life is"? And don't even get me started on those who post every intimate detail of their trials and tribulations.

I had been toying with getting an iPad. What finally sold me was when a co-worker told me about the handy-dandy Square that allows you to accept credit card payments anywhere you are, which is great for me and any craft shows/farmers markets I do. There are also a lot of fun apps out in the world that I always wanted, but could never have because of my little LG flip phone. It's also handy that I can make my own skins with my photos! Good promotion for my pictures, I think so!

But, guess what? I'm saving $100 and getting the iPad 2. Who needs the better screen resolution, really?
